A Transparent Message About Tariffs

The fog of uncertainty surrounding tariffs is lifting. That is the good news, I guess, as the uncertainty surrounding tariffs has effected much behind the scenes in the pet industry, and all retail. Now for the bad news, we are receiving price increase notifications daily from our brand partners and distributors on products sourced and manufactured oversees. Many of the products we count on for pets will cost more in July, as we need to raise our prices to compensate for rising costs attributed to government imposed tariffs. Everything from wee-wee pads to toys and bully sticks will cost more.

While this is out of our control, what is in our control is how we support you through the rising tide of price increases.

Here’s what we’re doing:

  • Absorbing costs where we can, by reducing our margins to minimize the burden on you.
  • Communicating openly and early so there are no surprises- If you have shopped with us recently, you have seen the signage in our stores pointing out where price increases are imminent. We will continue to do this as brands are announcing price increases on a daily basis. In addition to price increases we are
  • Working closely with our brand partners to hold cost increases to a minimum and making sure that the products you need are in stock.
  • Continuing to offer loyalty rewards, discounts and promotions to bring you added value.
  • Adding to our large assortment of Made in the USA brands to give you even more options to buy American made pet products. As you know, the overwhelming majority of our pet foods, treats and chews are US sourced and US made, so they will not be immediately effected by tariffs.

We know how much your furry family members mean to you—and that quality nutrition, care, and supplies are non-negotiable. That’s why we’re as committed as ever to delivering the best service, selection, and support possible.

If you have any questions about specific product pricing, availability, or want help exploring budget-friendly or USA made options, our team is here and happy to help.

As a small business owner, I would like to add that now more than ever it is important for us all to shop local and support our neighborhood businesses.  The primary focus of small retail businesses like CB Pet Market and other independent retailers is our customer. We are genuinely happy to greet you and your pets when you visit the store. We share your pet stories and we offer you advise and product recomendations that are curated to your specific pets needs. Businesses like Amazon and Chewy operate in the best interests of their shareholders, the customer is not their primary focus, merely the means to an end, growing revenue and delivering shareholder value.  Local retail businesses are the heartbeat of our communities, let's keep them strong and vibrant.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly with any questions or concerns.

With heartfelt appreciation and thanks,
